Listed Places of Worship Grant

Currently, under this scheme all listed places of worship repair works are zero- rated for VAT – representing a saving of 17.5 %. However, this scheme is under consideration and may well end in March 2011.

If the Listed Places of Worship Grant Scheme is not renewed beyond 2011, congregations will need to find an extra 17.5% of the total costs of repair works, and the impact upon them will be huge.

In addition from January 1st 2011, VAT is going up to 20%.

This coupled with the ending of the transitional rate relief of GIFT AID in 2011 for all charities, means next year that churches, chapels and other places of worship will effectively face a major financial triple-whammy!
